The former Atletico hit-man netted 33 goals in his debut season at Anfield but the Spaniard’s goalscoring has been hit by a string of hamstring injuries so far this season.
Any thoughts the player has of sitting back and reflecting on past achievements are quickly dispelled by the in your face Benitez.
“When you are in a team where things for the most part go well then players tend to take things easier,” Torres said in the Sunday Mirror.
“Not with Benitez. You must always push yourself, never become complacent, try to do your best every single day.
“At a club like Liverpool, you can’t sit back after scoring 20-odd goals and say ‘well, that’s it’. Benitez is at you during the next training session and stays on top of you all day, all week.
“We don’t always fancy having someone like that so close but, in the long term, I am sure everybody will thank him for it.”
