Salomon Kalou scored twice in the second half as Chelsea FC defeated relegation-threatened Middlesbrough FC 2-0 and moved above a Liverpool FC team who were held to a 1-1 draw by Wigan Athletic FC.
Chelsea started the day below the Merseysiders in third but are now above Rafael BenÃtez's side on goal difference, two points adrift of leaders Manchester United FC having played a game more. Liverpool looked like drawing level with United at the summit when Yossi Benayoun rounded goalkeeper Mike Pollitt to give the visitors the lead four minutes before the break, however, they were unable to close the game out and Mido, making his debut after signing on loan from Middlesbrough, stroked in an 83rd-minute penalty to condemn the Reds to their third successive draw in the league.
