Worlds thinnest 17” notebook completes MacBook Pro line

With the latest MacBook and the MacBook Pro 15" now being dressed in their one-piece aluminum unibody enclosures, it was just a matter of time until Apple would give the same honours to the 17" MacBook Pro. And there couldn't have been a better place to do this than MacWorld Expo 2009 in San Francisco, where Phil Schiller, Apple Sr. VP Worldwide Product Marketing, who stood in for the absent Steve Jobs at the final MacWorld Expo that Apple plans to be present at.

Like the latest MacBook unveiled last fall, the new 17" model has all the environmentally friendly components - doing away with the mercury and arsenic found in the old LCD displays; the brominated flame retardant chemicals and the PVC found in may of the cables.

Now, being eco-friendly doesn't take away from beauty and performance. The new high-resolution ultra-thin widescreen glossy LED backlit display is capable of displaying 1920 x1200 pixels and with its 700:1 contrast ratio, the blacks and whites should look as they are meant to be. It can power on instantly and is expected to use 30% less energy to do so.

It also has the exact same multi-touch glass track pad as the new MacBook as well as an illuminated keyboard.
