Liverpool have little or no money to spend in the transfer window, but Heskey is out of contract in the summer and Wigan will reluctantly cash in now to ensure they don’t lose him for nothing.Manager Steve Bruce has spoken of demanding a big fee for the striker but the reality is that he has hardly played for Wigan this season, and the Latics boss will take what he can get to fund some of the fee required to make Amir Zaki's a permanent move. Liverpool will face competition from Aston Villa for the striker's services, but Heskey has already indicated that he wants to go back to Anfield to rejoin the club he supported as a boy.
If the Merseyside club can get Heskey for £4m then a deal is a real possibility because they haven't given up hope of recouping that figure by shipping Jermaine Pennant out in the transfer window.
