At the stroke of midnight on January 1 the transfer window will open and football clubs' fax machines will be buzzing with requests for players.
And, just for the record, the FA have announced that the window will slam shut at 5pm on February 2.
Aside from the fact nobody other than football clubs seems to use faxes any more, who will do well in the new year sales and who will end up with the battered old items that have been left on the shelf? Or, will the credit crunch bite and Manchester City will be the only ones flashing the cash?
