There will be a heavy dose of English flavour to the UEFA Champions League quarter-final draw in Nyon on Friday 20 March after Manchester United FC and Arsenal FC eliminated Italian opposition to join Chelsea FC and Liverpool FC to swell the Premier League contingent to four.
English quartet
Holders United, 2-0 winners on the night and on aggregate against FC Internazionale Milano, were joined by an Arsenal side who needed penalties to oust AS Roma after both legs finished 1-0 to the home team. On Tuesday, Chelsea held off a spirited response from Juventus to go through 3-2 on aggregate while Liverpool were too clinical for Real Madrid CF in a 4-0 cruise at Anfield.
Spanish pair
FC Barcelona and east-coast rivals Villarreal CF are still involved from the Spanish ranks although fellow Liga side Club Atlético de Madrid were knocked out by FC Porto on away goals. FC Bayern München, 12-1 aggregate victors against Sporting Clube de Portugal, complete the eight-team lineup.
