The winner of Liverpool v Chelsea will play Barcelona or Bayern Munich in the semis. If Manchester United and Arsenal both progress, they will face each other in a potentially explosive semi-final.
The quarter-final first legs will be played on April 7 and 8 with the return matches taking place the following week. The semi-finals will taking place on April 28/29 and May 5/6 and final will be played on Wednesday May 27 at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.
In his reactions to the draw Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry is optimistic about Liverpool's chances of defeating Chelsea in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
"It's that time of year again and its a sense of deja vue," he said after the draw in Nyon. "We've got to play them sooner or later so it doesn't really matter to us.
"We know what weve gt to do over the two legs and know what we are capable of doing so we've got to get on with it now.
"It's not about historical form ,its about form at this stage of the season and if we keep doing well and keep everyone fit then were optimistic."Liverpool must now wait on official confirmation that they will not be forced to play on the anniversary of the Hillsborough tragedy.
"We do not want to ply on 15th," added Parry. "It's important to the club and every Liverpool fan and are just waiting on baited breath to get that confirmation. "There is no more important issue for Liverpool than this, so lets hope we get the right outcome."
