Super toys for the super-rich

A vintage Ferrari is expected to sell for a staggering £10.5 million when it is auctioned off in May.

And De Beers has launched a fountain pen decked out in almost 2,000 diamonds, marketed at a staggering £900,000.

If the 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa hits its estimated price, it will become the most expensive vintage car ever sold at auction.

Previously Radio 2 DJ Chris Evans held the record after spending £5.5 million for a 1961 Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder which used to belong to James Coburn, star of The Magnificent Seven and The Great Escape, who died in 2002.

With its black livery and red nose, the 250TR, known as the Pontoon-Fender, is considered one of most iconic of all Ferrari racing cars.

Only 22 were made in the Ferrari factory at Maranello, Italy, between 1957 and 1958.

Max Girardo, from auctioneers RM Auctions, said: "This legendary 250 TR is one of the most exciting motorcars ever to be presented in auction history."

The Ferrari will be auctioned in association with Sotheby's, in Maranello, Italy, on May 17.
