Highly-rated Australian goalkeeper Dean Bouzanis is close to agreeing a five-year contract with Liverpool worth more than 10,000 pounds a week, according to a report in the News of the World this morning.
Bouzanis has broken into the Liverpool reserves side and has also impressed in the FA Youth Cup this season. The 18-year-old keeper came through the ranks at the New South Wales Institute of Sport before moving to England.
Although he grew up in Australia, Bouzanis is of Greek heritage and he has yet to make a decision over which country to represent. He has played for Australia at Under-17 and Under-23 level and for Greece at Under-19.
Bouzanis is one of the most highly rated young goalkeepers in the world. His agent Terry Palapanis described him as "a freak of a prospect, there were 22 clubs from Europe chasing him … but we chose Liverpool. It was too hard to refuse." According to the Liverpool website his biggest attributes are distribution and command of the area.
