FIFA to mull over extra refs and sin-bins
The International Football Association Board (IFAB) - which sets the rules for the world's most popular sport - will assess whether extra linesmen monitoring penalty areas at the end of each pitch can help alert referees to fouls or diving, while avoiding the need to introduce potentially disruptive video replays.
European governing body UEFA will deliver the results of its recent trials at under-age tournaments and international matches in Slovenia, Cyprus and Hungary.
UEFA chief Michel Platini and FIFA president Sepp Blatter both favour such an approach instead of video replays like those used in rugby when the referee is unsure whether a try has been scored.
The game's top officials say such television replays hamper the fluidity of a match with unnecessary stoppages.
Rick Parry set to leave Liverpool Football Club
Rick Parry is set to leave Liverpool Football Club.
It was reported that Parry’s departure by mutual consent will be officially announced by Liverpool later today.
The long serving chief executive will not leave with immediate effect though with all parties in agreement that he will remain in position until the end of the current season.
Speculation will inevitably surface suggesting Parry has lost a power struggle with Reds boss Rafa Benitez but the real reason for his power is an acknowledgment that his relationship with Tom Hicks is unworkable.
As yet, there are no indications about who will replace Parry when his time at the club comes to an end.

Dubai Formula One theme park suspended
Union Properties PJSC today announced a Board decision to suspend the construction and opening of its F1-X theme park project, which was scheduled to open in Dubai 2009. The decision was taken due to the current financial market and the drying up of liquidity from banks and financial institutions.
The suspension will delay the opening of The Formula One entertainment concept until 2010.
Penny Fischer, Marketing Director from F1-X said today that, "the project is founded on a strong business model that withstands recession whilst allowing for the future growth of Dubai. With construction more than 50% complete, the core of international expertise on the ground and operational plans virtually complete, it is hard to believe that a financial partner will not come forward in coming days or weeks to capitalise on the opportunity."
F1-X is the first family entertainment concept of its kind ever developed. Based on the pinnacle of motor sport, Formula One - a single sport - it has been designed for core fans and non- sporting enthusiasts alike. The park has something for everyone including bespoke rides and simulations, F1 team showcases and experiences, and even a walk back in time through 1950's Europe and the birth of the pinnacle of motor sport.

Ramos praises Liverpool's resilience
But the Spanish giants could not find a way though a well-marshalled Liverpool backline and barely even had a chance of note as the visiting 2005 Champions League winners claimed a 1-0 victory thanks to Yossi Benayoun`s late headed goal.
Ramos said: "Liverpool have to be credited for their defensive work. Our intention was to score a goal at home and record a good advantage to go into the second leg, and they haven't given us any space. Liverpool were very well organised in defence.
"There were hardly any chances and at the end it has been a set-piece that they took advantage of that separates the teams."
The ex-Tottenham boss admits Liverpool's tactics came as no surprise to him. "I think that Liverpool played how we expected," he added. "They've tried to keep a clean sheet and it's us who had to take risks. We've tried to create chances, but they've defended well. We brought on Guti to try and open them up. The game was developing how we thought but we couldn't find the breakthrough."
Paul Tomkins: The Real Deal
There was no excuse for Real to not put on a show. It's clear that despite their sky-high confidence they weren't at their best, but a large part of that was the Reds not letting them play.
As ever, a top European team coincidentally has a bad night against Liverpool. Hmm...
Juande Ramos said the Reds came to defend, and while it's true that the bus was parked early on as the visitors sussed out the home side, Liverpool did more than just hit on the counter attack. Indeed, they created the better openings, with Real forced to shoot wildly from distance.

Middlesborough vs Liverpool
Hopefully Torres’ ankle injury will prove to be nothing serious, and he’ll be fit for action, alongside Gerrard who, after returning to training in the early part of the week, got a small run out Wednesday night, which was possibly a pre-cursor to a full 90 minutes on Saturday.
