Liverpool boss one step closer to the Bernabeu

Various media sources in the UK have reported Liverpool coach Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez to have rejected a re-written contract extension deal with the Anfield management that would have acknowledged his full control over the club's transfer policy as he had previously demanded.

The Mail says it's the 3rd time Benitez had rejected a renewal to his contract, noting that the last proposal would also have given him total control over Liverpool's youth academy.

News of the World, however, claims this is actually the 5th renewal proposition turned down by the Spaniard, and claim he had said he could not work with co-owner George Gillett Jr and/or chief executive Rick Parry in control.

This is of course good news to those in the Bernabeu hoping the tactician would take over from Juande Ramos next summer. Although many –including current Real president- see Ramos as the man for the job next season, Benitez and Wenger's names are being used for presidential elections campaigning.
