Sunderland star Cisse arrested for alleged late-night assault

Sunderland striker Djibril Cisse has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a woman in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The 27-year-old France international, who is on loan from Marseille, was taken to Market Street police station in Newcastle, where he was questioned before being released on bail.

His arrest follows an alleged argument with a woman in Newcastle near the Diamonds lap-dancing club, in Grey Street, Newcastle just after 3am.

Cisse grabbed the woman, who has not been named, by the throat, according to a report in the Daily Mirror.

A spokesman for Northumbria Police said: "A 27-year-old man was arrested for an assault at 3am in Grey Street.

"He was questioned regarding the assault before being bailed pending further inquiries."

A spokesman for the player last night denied the arrest or that Cisse had assaulted anyone. Sunderland have refused to comment today.

Female Singaporean teacher jailed for teen sex

A female Singaporean teacher who had sex with a minor student was sentenced for ten months in jail on Monday, local media reported.

According to Chinese language newspaper Lianhe Zaobao, the 32-year-old woman had sex with a 15-year-old foreign boy during Marchand May last year. The women, married and the mother of two daughters, pleaded guilty in May 2008 after the boy threatened to kill her and her family when she tried to end their relationship.

Local judge said in a report that the teacher lacks the ability of introspection, and she breached the trust from students and parents.

Violation of this kind to the Singapore law could be jailed for up to 10 years and fined.

Pakistani woman given asylum because she’s 7ft 2in tall

A 7ft 2in (2.18 m) Pakistani woman is expected to be allowed to stay permanently in Britain because she claims her height has made her a target at home.

Zainab Bibi arrived two and a half years ago and has spent much of the time since on benefits.

She has been able to send money home to her family while Home Office investigators examine her application for political asylum.

Yet back in the impoverished, Punjabi village of Mandi Rajana where she was born, her family, friends and police suggest that far from being a victim, her international recognition meant she enjoyed celebrity status whenever she returned home.
