Macca Exclusive: Reds needed a Quaresma

Liverpool lead Chelsea in the league, but Steve McManaman thinks The Reds are one step behind in the transfer market.

McManaman admits he was left confused by the sale of Robbie Keane, not least because there were no new faces arriving through the Anfield entrance doors.

The former Real Madrid star uses the example of Ricardo Quaresma to make his point, insisting Liverpool needed to replace Keane with a creative spark.

“The only reason for selling him would have been to bring in somebody else. Otherwise I would have kept him,” McManaman wrote in his weblog.

“Liverpool haven’t brought anybody in. Look at Chelsea with Quaresma on loan until the end of the season. I would have rather Liverpool did that. They’re desperate for a right winger.

“I think it would have been better to bring in a player like that who can change a game - even if it’s just on loan.

“There’s no danger there; if he fails - you get rid of him in the summer.”
