Reds superior to Everton says Mascherano

Javier Mascherano has expressed his massive confidence ahead of the Merseyside derby with Everton.

Liverpool and Everton will meet twice inside a week, in the league on Monday and FA Cup on Sunday.

Argentina international Mascherano is dying to play in the exciting encounter with The Toffees, and he does not expect anything other than three points for The Reds.

The midfielder understands his team have been in impressive form so far this season, and he claims that Rafa Benitez’s men are ‘superior’ to David Moyes’ charges.

Mascherano aims to regain top spot, reclaimed by Manchester United on Saturday, in order to put the pressure on their title rivals.“That kind of derby is tough and you cannot allow any space to your rival during such games. What we must do is win, possibly scoring many goals.

“Winning that game is always a massive boost. Everton have been playing well recently, but we are a superior team and this game must be ours.

“We have to win every single game if we want to remain at the top of the league and put pressure on our title rivals.

“The game is about us. I mean that it’s impossible for Everton to put us in trouble on Monday if we play at the same level as in the last few weeks.

“As far as I’m concerned, I love derbies. Before I moved to England I experienced many in Argentina and Brazil, and it’s a huge show on the pitch and in the stands.

“Everybody wants to prove themselves.”
