Liverpool braced for double dose of blues

Manchester may have made more headlines this week than is considered acceptable 50km west in Liverpool, but Merseyside's big two clubs get the chance to redress the balance starting with Monday's derby match at Anfield.

Double-header

The Premier League game is the first of back-to-back Liverpool FC v Everton FC fixtures after the pair were also drawn to meet in the FA Cup fourth round next Sunday, 25 January. Not the ideal draw for either team, and perhaps less than perfect timing for the league match too given Manchester United FC's recent pursuit of Liverpool. After Rafael Benítez's long-time frontrunners were held 0-0 by struggling Stoke City FC last week, Liverpool are no longer sitting pretty and may even be shifting uncomfortably in their seats after Friday's reports that boss Benítez has, for the moment at least, rejected a new contract offer.
