Inter are pondering a sensational swoop for Barcelona star Lionel Messi and could use Diego Maradona as the go-between to help convince the striker to move to Italy.
Fcinternews.it claim the Argentinian international is a long-time target of club president Massimo Moratti and that he is prepared to do what he did with Ronaldo back in 1997.
Inter are keen on Messi, however, he has a €150 million buy-out clause in his contract. Reports suggest Moratti could be ready to break the bank after Blaugrana coach Pep Guardiola said he wasn't really worried about rumours linking his man with a move elsewhere.
Inter have an excellent relationship with Maradona and they will be looking to use the former Napoli legend as a way to Messi's heart. Maradona is like a father figure to the striker and could prove key to the move.
The Argentina coach spent some time with Inter recently and the Nerazzurri made sure he was treated like a king; perhaps the start of a long campaign to land Messi.
The Barcelona No.10 could be tempted by a move if a mega deal is tabled. In addition, it is believed Messi will be looking to test himself in another top-European league, and thus a future move to Inter could become a possibility.
All the talk has been about the striker moving to Real Madrid if Florentino Perez takes over. However, such a move is unlikely as Messi would never go to a bitter rival. Also, the player has always spoken highly of Inter, leading to suggestions that the San Siro could be his next destination.
